Today I visited the Animal Health Trust in Newmarket to hand over my sponsorship money. I was lucky enough to raise £3200 which has been donated to the research of SRM in Beagles. Hopefully a DNA profile will be developed to prevent dogs suffering the way Murphy did.

Pictured on the right is Andrew Simmonds from the AHT fundraising team and Dr Catherine Mellersh with myself.

Shay wins Reserve Best Hound of the Year!!

Tyne Wear & Tees Hound Club have a special competition night where a mystery judge is invited to declare Hound of the Year, Puppy of the Year and Veteran of the Year. To qualify for the event you have to have won BOB, BOS or BP at one of the two open shows they hold each year. It is run on a match system (one dog against each other) and each match is decided by drawing numbers out of a hat so you never know who you will meet.

The Hound of the Year match was held at Durham and the mystery judge was Mr Brian Foster "Stormpasture". Seamus had qualified by being awarded BOB under Kevin Hirst "Kejana" at the show in May (where he also went on to be awarded BIS4) and again under Maureen Caney "Springpine" at their November show (where he also went on to win RBIS) After about eight rounds he was finally declared Reserve Best Hound of the Year behind Gatheral's Standard Smooth Haired Dachshund, Phaeland Sheriffs Deputy. Also pictured (bottom right) is the Basset Hound Best Puppy winner, Feetham's Kimbleholme Fairytale.

Today I paid a little visit to new Shay babies....

Introducing Bruadair Iomhair (also known as Ivor)

&

Bruadair Innse (beautifully named Isla)

These gorgeous babies were bred by my good friends Debbie and Jim Linden and will hopefully be seen in the ring Spring 2010. They are by Seamus (Newlin Victor of Salenko JW ShCM) and Cheri (Bruadair Eiridinn). As you can see from their photographs, they have great show potential.

I had a fantastic time judging at Livingston Canine Society held at Bathgate Leisure Centre, Edinburgh.. Despite the terrible conditions of -9 degree and an endless supply of show, it was a good show.

My Best Beagle, Newlin Anchor Chief is pictured on the right. Unfortunately he could not compete in the group as his breeder was judging the Hound Group. In Scotland a Best Puppy In Breed does not normally get declared. Thanks to the exhibitors for my entry and also the committee for their hospitality.

Shay wins Reserve Best In Show at Tyne, Wear & Tees Hound Open Show.

After a short break from the ring, Seamus attended the Tyne, Wear and Tees Hound's second Open Show of the year. Having preiously won BOB and Best In Show 4 at the May Open show.

The break must have done the trick as Shay won the Open dog class and was then declared Best of Breed. under breed specialist Maureen Caney "Springpine".

Our Best In Show judge was Mrs Toni Agnew who decided upon a beautiful whippet as her Best In Show. To my delight, Shay was her Reserve Best In Show.

Shay is pictured above right after winning this award and also bottom right, moving out beautifully in the Best In Show challenge.

Thank you to both judges for these lovely awards and also Christine Hartland for the photographs.

11th October 2009

A weekend off from showing, however it was time for some judging!! The society was Beckenham Canine Association and was way down south in Kent. My mam took full advantage of this trip and spent the day at the Bluewater Shopping Centre!!

I had a lovely entry of Cavalier King Charles Spaniels and found my eventual Best of Breed in the young dog, Avalcier Hans who I was could have quite easily taken home. I was delighted to found out that his class wins under me, gave him his final Junior Warrant points. My Reserve Best of Breed was the sweetest little bitch called Rabymar Athina at Timbric and my Best Puppy In Breed was Avalcier Rockefeller another that I could have quite easily put in the back of my car!! My CKCS main award winners are photographed, top right.

My Beagle Best of Breed was Rossut Zulu of Pakawhai JW ShCM and Reserve Best of Breed was Redcap Folktale of Bondlea. Unfortunately there was only one Beagle Puppy there, so my Best Puppy went to Trebellean Will's Branson. The main Beagle award winners are photographed on the right. Thanks to all exhibitors and Beckenham CA.

4th October 2009

This weekend saw the very long trip down to Cardiff direct from Wetherby Racecourse (Driffield CH - Shay and Saff both got respectable 3rd places). Cardiff was the venue of the Welsh Beagle Club's Ruby Anniversary show where Ms Liz Calikes was judging. Since Seamus was bred by the judge, only Saffy was entered and she showed well considering the incredibly slippy floor to pick up 4th in the Junior bitch class and 1st in Maiden bitch. Saffy is pictured on the right in one of her classes.

19th September 2009

A very busy weekend!! Today was Four Counties Beagle Club's open show and our judge was Marina Scott (nee White) of Belsmard fame.

To my delight, Seamus won the Open dog class, was then awarded Best Dog and later went on to win Reserve Best In Show and Best Opposite Sex. It was the Ruby Anniversary of the FC Beagle Club which meant that there were lots of special prizes to be won. Shay is pictured on the right with his many awards and HUGE rosettes!!

Shay's critique reads: "Powerful and striking quality t/w stallion with excellent bone and real character. In excellent condition and really motored round the ring. Good depth of skull and well defined stop, kind eye and melting expression, long leathers which fell close to his head. Correct neck length which flowed into level back. Well sprung ribs and correct underline. Muscular thighs, good turn of stifle into short read pasterns. Best Dog"

Saffy stood alone in her class (pictured right). Her critique read "Another nice t/w dog from this exhibitor. Super mover, one of the best of the day. Nice head with kind eye. Muscular neck into well laid back shoulders, good forechest. Topline ok, nice tuck up, good set-on of tail and long strong tail. Excellent bone throughout. Very feminine"

Many thanks to our judge for these awards.

Beagles were being judged on the first day of Darlington and our judge was breed specialist Mrs Jen Davies "Seevad". Seamus was awarded 1st place in Limit Dog which was his 28th first place at championship shows. Not bad, considering he is still only 2 years old. Seamus is pictured right waiting of his critique. Thanks to Jackie Fraser (Wyvisview) for this photograph.

Saffy was entered in Post Graduate bitch which was possibly the largest class of beagles we've had this year, 28!! After being in the class nearly an hour, Saffy was awarded 3rd place which means she has now qualified for Crufts 2010. Thanks to our judge for these awards.
